Halloween Adventures ‘09

Halloween has come and gone and with it all the sugary death I love so much: sad and well I suppose good for me. Yet, it was a wondrous holiday. The kids had a blast and even got a visit from the Great Pumpkin this morning. Yes, the Great Pumpkin lives on and in our household much like the Tooth fairy aka The Molinator he receives a portion of the candy collected and in return gives gifts. The kids get the best of the best of their candies and presents and the Halloween holiday is like the best evar! Candy and presents, who could ask for more.

Nate is just starting to get the wonder of this holiday while his brother Dean is all about the miracle of free candy illustrated in our Adventures in Trick or Treating. We were roaming the pathways of our PUD (planned unit development) and stumbled upon an exceptionally well done house-o-horror: it was real to life scary with all the trimmings. They even had a character all dressed up in horror-garb: a cloak and gruesome mask. The boys ran ahead to the porch-lit door to receive their blessed bounties, when all of the sudden the manikin came to life and grr’d under his breath. Nate froze for all of two nanoseconds and then yawped for all he was worth and took off down the street screaming bloody murder, apparently scared out of his wits. The man in costume felt really bad and chased after my little man with my wife and showed Nate the mask and told him that it was all just pretend. Nate said something akin to, “oh, pretend,” and walked back for an extra helping of goodies. As we walked away, Nate was still a little frazzled, so Dean trailed up next to his brother and in a way only brothers could, he verbally put his arm around Nate and consoled him with his youthful words of wisdom, “..but you got the candy right?”

Nonetheless, don’t worry too much about my little man, he’s still perfectly well-adjusted and is loving life: riding his pony head on a stick and watching the Veggie Tales DVD the Great Pumpkin left for him.

That is all.
